Dr. Kay started as an organic chemistry major at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York. His interest in the then new fields of Bio-Organic Chemistry (later to merge into Biochemistry) and Immunology led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and then a post doctoral research position in cancer research. Adding an MD degree allowed him to enhance his research interests in the biochemistry of the skin.
